Why does Shane Jet hate gay people so much? Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which he wrote and directed, features a queer character called Gay Perry (Val Kilmer), who says sarcastically, that he keeps the moniker, because, I just like the name. Of course, if audiences are not sure about this tough guys sexuality, well, his cell phone call gives him awayits a disco version of the anthem, I Will Survive.
Perrysorry, Gay Perryis a crime solving, cock-loving, wisecracking private dick whose function in this mess of a film appears mainly to hold his gayness used as a punch line. His homosexuality is consistently discussed in unfunny jokes, and with such disbelief and disdain by the other characters that the whole film comes off quite homophobic.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang () is my Die Hard. It is a Christmas movie, and I defend it as such with my life. Every year since I first saw it in , I trot it out in December alongside the standard fare appreciate A Charlie Brown Christmas and Love Actually. One could argue the holiday is only there for set dressing, but director Shane Black—who so far has set five of the ten films he has written around Christmas—says it’s an intentional choice.
