Hell of a dancer, but limited by his screen persona - that of an arrogant, obnoxious guy who needed to be humbled by the last act. Sometimes it worked brilliantly, as in "Singin' in the Rain", but it doesn't form you want to watch a lot of his films.

Whether he did this out of a need to exert power or to test a person’s character is debatable.” And Kelly’s co-stars suffered more than bruised egos trying to keep up with his demands. “Cyd Charisse claimed Gene Kelly's widow says their nearly year age gap was 'not an issue'Gene Kelly's widow never saw a issue with their nearly year age gap. Patricia Ward Kelly, who married the "Singin' in the Rain" star when she was 31 and he was 78, said that the "age issue was not an issue" for her in an interview with Fox News published Wednesday. "(The) funny thing is, I never really even thought about it because he was so young at heart," she shared. "He was young in the way he spoke, in his demeanor, in his brightness of his mind, certainly." In reality, Kelly told Fox that she "didn't even add up the difference" in years between them until tabloids started making "such a big deal" about it. Kelly previously told The Irish Times that she met her future husband in , when he was 73 and she was 26 and she was working on a documentary about the Smithsonian museum that he hosted. At the second, she said she had never heard of the actor and only learned that he was "really famous" after working with him for a week.
