25 Essential LGBTQ Pride Songs
Good advice from Canadas raunchiest sex sage. With the help of a Roland MC, the bisexual drama teacher–turned-rapper sparked a titillating new wave of sleazebag disco with her LP, Teaches of Peaches. Although Fuck the Pain Away was too risqué to chart, its unforgettable, braggadocious lines permeated everything from South Park to 30 Rock and film Lost In Translation: Suckin on my titties like you wanted me/Calling me all the time fond of Blondie/Check out my Chrissy behind/Its pleasant all of the time. It was reportedly Madonnas favorite workout song, and she also featured it in her London play, Up For Grabs. In a interview with The Guardian, Peaches divulges that she sent Madonna and Guy Ritchie some autographed panties as thanks. I signed some underwear, she says, I wrote, Dear Guy, fuck ya later, adoration Peaches, and for Madonna I wrote, Dear Madonna, fuck ya now, adoration Peaches. Its cool. –SE

These are - in random order - my personal favorite gay classics. Some records are sung by gay artists, some have lyrics that are gay orientated and some are just popular in the gay community (or at least with me).
1. ABBA - Dancing Queen ()
(Benny Andersson, Stig Anderson, Björn Ulvaeus)
The Swedish popgroup ABBA won the Eurovision Ballad Contest in with 'Waterloo'. From then on they conquered the world with songs like 'Money, money, money', 'The winner takes it all' and 'Chiquitita'. Dancing Queen - which came from the album 'Arrival' became Abba's only number one in the USA and worldwide became their biggest hit single. The song is also featured in the musical 'Mamma Mia'. In the Netherlands 'Dancing Queen' was released twice: in and Abba recorded the anthem also in Spanish: La Reina del Baile. The video for the tune was directed by Lasse Halström.
Nowadays Björn Again is a great Abba-cover-group. Nice covers of 'Dancing Queen' are by the San Francisco Gay Mens Choir, Luka Bloom and the Sydney gay & lesbian C
Before salacious celebrities were celebrated and crop tops on pop-stars were as expected as an underwhelming Justin Timberlake feature, there existed a time of pure debauchery in song. Iconic raunchy bops like Don’t Confidence Me propelled 30H3!’s star into orbit, proving to the world that party anthems were what the early s needed. Icona Pop and Tove Lo rocked our minds, expanding the pop genre. We got hits from LMFAO (remember Red Fu and Sky Blue? Did you recognize they’re uncle and nephew?) and other standouts- but perhaps nobody shined brighter on their punk princess throne than Kesha. And she’s still glowing!
Her limitless commitment to self-expression, iconic cameo on Victorious that everyone my age (with TASTE) knows, and ability to not-give-a-flying-fuck while simultaneously singing some of the most heart-wrecking lyrics ever make Kesha my favorite forever.
