Lego reveals first LGBTQ-themed set Everyone is Awesome
In the lead-up to Pride month, Lego has released its first set which celebrates the LGBTIQIA+ community.
Called Everyone is Awesome, after the Everything is Awesome song from the Lego movies, the new model features 11 buildable, colorful figures, inspired by the rainbow flag.
Each monochromatic person in the arrange has a unlike hairstyle and color associated with them. The designers intentionally did not assign a gender to the figures.
I wanted to produce a model that symbolises [sic] inclusivity and celebrates everyone, no matter how they identify or who they love, set designer and design vice president Matthew Ashton, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, said in a push release. Everyone is unique, and with a little more love, acceptance and understanding in the world, we can all feel more free to be our true AWESOME selves!

Lego launching first LGBTQ set called Everyone Is Awesome
Lego is celebrating Pride Month in June by launching its first ever LGBTQ-themed place, Everyone Is Awesome.
Inspired by the Pride flag, the piece set features 11 Lego figures painted in different shades of the rainbow flag, as successfully as black and brown to symbolize diversity, and illumination blue, white, and pink from the transgender flag.
Only one figure has a specific gender: the purple one, which features a beehive wig in a clear nod to all the fabulous drag queens out there, the sets designer, Matthew Ashton, told The Guardian. The rest possess no specific gender, allowing them to express individuality, while remaining ambiguous.
Ashton, who is Legos vice president of design, said that he created the initial set make his office feel prefer home with something that reflected me and the LGBTQIA+ community I’m so proud to be a part of.

With Pride just days away, Lego made a big announcement today: a piece set with an explicit LGBTQ theme. The “Everyone Is Awesome” Lego place comes with 11 figures, each painted a different color of the rainbow, along with a rainbow arch to match.
Matthew Ashton, Vice President of Design, said in a video that he originally made a prototype of the set for his own desk after moving offices, to make the novel workspace reflect the LGBTQ community, which he considers himself part of. His officemates said they loved it, and thus the plan to make it a real product was born.
Ashton hopes the set will be inspiring to LGBTQ youth. On growing up gay, he says, “Trying to be someone I wasn’t was exhausting. I long for, as a kid, I had looked at the world and thought: ‘This is going to be okay, there’s a place for me.’ I want I’d seen an inclusive statement that said ‘everyone is awesome.’”
